Installation

Botnadzor is available for Chrome and Firefox browsers. You can install it from the official browser extension stores or manually install beta versions from GitHub.

Choose your browser

Select the installation method for your browser:Google Chrome (and Chromium-based browsers like Edge, Brave, Opera)Mozilla Firefox

Install the extension

Click the “Add to Chrome” or “Add to Firefox” button on the extension page.Your browser will prompt you to confirm the installation and show the permissions required by the extension.

Confirm permissions

Botnadzor requires the following permissions:
  • activeTab - To highlight bots on the current VK page you’re viewing
  • storage and unlimitedStorage - To store bot data and user settings
  • alarms - To schedule periodic data updates
These permissions are necessary for the extension to function properly.

Start using Botnadzor

Once installed, navigate to any VK page (like vk.com) and the extension will automatically start highlighting bots in comments and posts.Click the extension icon in your browser toolbar to access settings and statistics.
Important version information: The browser extension stores currently host version 1.x of Botnadzor. The main repository contains version 2.x, which is currently in development. If you want to try the latest beta features, see the manual installation instructions below.

Manual Installation (Beta Version 2.x)

To test the latest beta version of Botnadzor (version 2.x), you can manually install it from GitHub Releases.

Download the latest beta release

Visit the GitHub Releases page and download the appropriate .zip file for your browser:
  • botnadzor-for-chrome-*.zip for Chrome/Chromium browsers
  • botnadzor-for-firefox-*.zip for Firefox

Extract the archive

Extract the downloaded .zip file to a folder on your computer. Remember the location of this folder.

Load the extension in your browser

For Chrome:
  1. Open chrome://extensions/ in your browser
  2. Enable “Developer mode” using the toggle in the top right
  3. Click “Load unpacked”
  4. Select the folder where you extracted the extension
For Firefox:
  1. Open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox in your browser
  2. Click “Load Temporary Add-on”
  3. Navigate to the extracted folder and select the manifest.json file

Note about temporary installation

In Firefox, manually installed extensions are temporary and will be removed when you restart the browser. You’ll need to reload the extension after each restart. In Chrome, the extension will remain installed as long as Developer mode is enabled.

Verify Installation

After installation, you can verify that Botnadzor is working:
  1. Visit any VK page with comments (e.g., vk.com/ria)
  2. Look for highlighted accounts in the comment section
  3. Click the Botnadzor icon in your browser toolbar to open the popup menu
  4. Check the statistics to see how many bots have been detected

Troubleshooting

If the extension doesn’t appear to be working:
  • Refresh the VK page after installing the extension
  • Check that the extension is enabled in your browser’s extension management page
  • Verify you’re on a supported site (vk.com, vk.ru, or vkvideo.ru)
  • Look at the browser console for any error messages (press F12)
